Chrome books
The chrome book is a wonderfully versatile tool and we will use it in high school band class to manage assignments and as a practicing resources to help students learn to play in tune and with a steady beat.
Google Classroom will be used for class assignments and announcements. Students will be given a classroom code during class.
Mastery Connect and Socrative will also be used to assess students and provide feedback.
Other tools that will help your student to achieve progress faster are a metronome and a tuner and these can be found for free to use on chrome books.
Middle School Band- Visit the Interactive Practice Studio where you will find play-a-long recordings from your band book (you can even change the speed!), metronome, tuner, and other fun features.

- Metronome- This helps students play with a steady beat. This Free metronome website will also allow students to track their practice time.
- Tuner- Once students can produce a characteristic sound on his or her instrument a tuner helps students to center the pitch so that they play more beautifully in tune. Free tuner website

Phone or Tablet Apps
Tuner- There are many free tuner apps. I most recommend the Tonal Energy Tuner - this app costs a few dollars. This app has a lot of features your student can use during class and at home. As a director I use this daily in my classes on my phone. It's a great resource!
Metronome- There are many free metronome apps. Tonal Energy also has a metronome function in the app so even though it costs a few dollars, it's a great deal because many years ago you would have had to buy two separate products for a lot more money, now you can have a very portable phone app that is both a tuner and a metronome!
Ear Training- Harmony Cloud is currently available for Apple products to provide a fun and challenging way to develop musician's ability to "play by ear." Go to iTunes and search the app store for Harmony Cloud.
Explore and find new apps- Apps are being created very often so search for music apps and let Ms. Garner know if you find one you enjoy using!
